HOMEGROWN APPLES

Well what a bumper crop of apples we have had this year. We have a little apple tree in our garden that has 3 types of apples grafted onto it all edible and delicious, how apples should taste!!
We picked the tree up for a bargain price of 1 pound in the now defunct Woolworths, the tree has been in for about 6 years now and over the years the crop has got better.
We did have a problem with ants, but a friend who lives in kefalonia give us a tip ..... paint the trunk of the tree white (when my dad did this i thought he had cracked up!),but it has worked.
So with any apples that have fallen we have been freezing them down to use in pies etc, but i have been shown how to do a quick and easy apple juice so when your making apple pies etc here's what to do with the peeling and cores put them into a pan with water and a little sugar boil for about 10 Min's and then strain and leave to cool and then drink or bottle it up and keep in the fridge, this will last for a few days.

Autum Sunshine & Forraging

Well once again we are having some warm weather, so as I was having a good day I decided to take my little man out for a walk.  So myself, little man and the parents went armed with  buckets and the camera off we set, we didn't even get 5 Min's from our house and we came across some gorgeous blackberries, so we stopped and filled our buckets
Whilst picking the blackberries I stumbled across a plum tree and a cherry plum tree (people tend to grow these as ornamentals but don't realise that you can eat the berries) and ended up coming away with a little bucket of plums too.

We then headed over to our local woods where we came across hazelnuts more blackberries and rose hips, it was great to see all these growing not far fro where we live and yet no one really bothers, but yet, they go to there local supermarket and would spend at least a couple of pound on buying them when all they really need to do is go for a walk and pick them themselves.
Little man enjoyed being able to run in the long grass and generally have a good play he made me laugh so much when he picked up a dandelion clock, but instead of blowing it like I showed him he decided to eat them !!. He spat them out and started laughing too.
We then headed home through the wood where once again little man was having a mini adventure. When we got home my dad started to make some homemade blackberry jam (its sooooooo good). It makes me think that this sort of thing doesn't get done much, I remember going for walks and being shown what to pick and what not to, where as these days people would rather sit indoors with a games console.

Having a bad week

Its been one of them weeks that I call bad, having a had a few low days and just wanting to have a bit of time out is hard, but thanks to my parents for helping me out this week.
I have also started another session of counselling to help with the panic attacks and anxiety, but no help with depression.
I was having a good Day on Thursday so i decided to take little man for his hair cut, after the last time i was not looking forward to it, but we decided to try another barber this one was headcase in Blyth and i have to say a big up to them as there was no tears and tantrums.

Glorious Sunshine & Homemade Quiche

Who would believe we are nearly into September and we are still having fabulous hot weather.
My little man is loving being out in his shorts and t-shirts and just generally running round the gardens chasing the dogs and generally getting into mischief as little boys do.
I was feeling pretty domesticated today and decided to bake some quiches with bits and bobs i had left in the fridge, so there was onions, cheese, leeks cream cheese and bacon and hey it was really tasty even the little man enjoyed it.

Potty Training Tip

Jacks Beach Adventure

As its been a glorious day I took my little man down to the beach (anything to do with water he loves). So off we went armed with a bucket and spade (and all the other items that a 21 month old needs).
As soon as he saw the water he was jumping round like a little spring so as I turned my jeans up and armed with a fishing net off we went for a rock pool hunt.
Jack was in his element looking at the shells seaweed etc, we came across a good sized crab and being as inquisitive as he is picked the crab up by the nippers my heart was in my mouth as i thought the crab would nip, but jack decided he'd had enough of that and threw him in his bucket (along with a few shells and stones). We found starfish and a few other things, before the tide got the better of us so we headed up on to the stone beach where jack thought we must have been in maka packas (in the night garden) world, he was picking up stone after stone and putting them in our bag to take home. When we got home he decided to get the bar of soap and a sponge and wash them (thanks to the above mentioned programme for this). On another note it is good to take my son out and about to see and do the things Iwas younger as this doesn't seem to happen much now.
